EATY

Cooking Ideas For Leftover Ingredients – Mobile App For iOS

Overview

The goal of this project was to design an app which searches for recipes that matches your entered leftover ingredients. It helps the user to easily find good cooking ideas to avoid throwing leftover ingredients into the bin. A built in shopping list and a friend system allow sharing of recipes and managing ingredients all at one place.

Problem

There is no application on the market which focuses on this subject. Similar apps also use their own recipe libraries, which are very small compared to the wide variety of big cooking sites.

Solution

EATY is focused on finding recipes for leftover ingredients. The app uses a search engine that checks most of the big cooking recipe platforms on the web. An integration and partnership with those platforms result in an optimized recipe output.

Users

The typical persona is a married woman with one or more children. She works part or full time and doesn’t have enough time to think about ideas or check the web, to find cooking ideas to use her leftover ingredients.

Key Features

The application allow users to search for cooking recipes that matches the entered leftover ingredients. A friend system makes sharing of recipes very easy. An integrated shopping list brings all the necessary tools into one place.

User Flow Diagram

I created user flows based on the brief, several user stories and a comprehensive research of personas.

Wireframes

After analysing similar apps and identifying the focus of the design, wireframes were created.

STYLE GUIDE

Color Palette

Everything melts into different white and very white-greenish soft colors. The green colors stand for sustainability and were used for clickable content and buttons. The bright colors give the design a clean and focused look. A pastell red was used for delete buttons. The main background is a very soft white-greenish gradient.

Typography

I chose Merriweather for the headings because of its classy feeling. Poppins as body text is with its rounded, open and clear shape a good partner. The buttons use Ubuntu to give them a very clear visual without a big distraction of the Merriweather headings. Together they blend very well into the design and give it an extra touch of quality and a very clean look.

about varying the amount of space between
different letter combinations, about what makes
great typography great. It was beautiful.
